NBI Clearance Online Application & Renewal Guide 2025

So you need an NBI Clearance for work, travel, or something else official? Worried you’ll mess it up? Don’t worry. I’ve done this process too many times to count (seriously, I think I’ve set a record). I’m here to walk you through it all. Step by step. No jargon. Zero confusion.

Even if you’re not techy and don’t even like computers, this is for you. Ready? Let’s do it!

You can think of it as a super-official document that proves you don’t have a criminal record in the Philippines. Most jobs want it. Many government places require it. Even getting a visa or school application might ask for it.

No NBI, no next step. It’s like trying to open a locked door without the key.

NBI Clearance is a powerful document in the Philippines. It’s not just a piece of paper—it’s proof that you have no criminal record in the entire country. This is why everyone from job seekers to those traveling or doing business needs one

  • Essential for jobs: Almost every employer—local or overseas—asks for an NBI Clearance before hiring you.
  • Why? It shows you have a clean slate and are safe to hire.
  • Applying for a visa? Embassies often require clear evidence you have no criminal record prior to approving your application.
  • Used for work, study, or residency abroad.
  • Required for getting a professional license, business permit, or franchise.
  • Needed for things like adoption or legal name changes.
  • Used to access certain government services (voter registration, postal ID, etc.).
  • Opening a bank account, entering major contracts, and starting a business may all call for NBI Clearance.
  • Often treated as a secondary valid ID.
  • Unlike police clearances (which are only for one city/town), NBI Clearance checks your record nationwide.
  • It proves you’re not wanted or involved in any unresolved criminal case.
  • Keeps your personal record up-to-date.
  • Ensures you’re clear for future opportunities, especially if you change jobs or travel frequently.

Walk-ins?Nope. All online now!

Here it is. The answer you wanted. If you want the online steps fast, see the bolded parts below. Need a deeper walk-through? I’ll explain under each heading.

Visit the Website

Open your device. Go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph or simply search “NBI Clearance Online” – just don’t fall for fake sites.

Create an Account
  • Hit “Register”.
  • Use a real email. The one you actually check.
  • Fill in required infos: name, birthday, mobile, etc.
  • Don’t skip the “I Accept Terms…” box, or you’re not moving forward.
  • Got an old NBI number? Tick “YES.”

If it’s your first time, just say “NO” and follow the prompts.

Verify With OTP

NBI sends you a one-time password. This is sent to your phone or email (sometimes both). Enter it quick – it expires in 5 minutes.

Complete Your Details

This is the longish part, but breathe easy. You’ll type stuff you already know: address, parents’ names, some education details. Sounds tedious, but seriously, it’s just typing.

Click “Save Information.” You’ll see a summary. Triple-check it! (Last time I found three spelling errors of my own name. Whoops.)

Appointing a date is a must. Walk-ins are out. Set an appointment, or maybe you’ll just stare at a locked NBI door forever.

  • Pick the branch closest to you.
  • Select a date and time (AM or PM might make a difference – nobody likes mornings?).
  • Dates in blue mean they’re open for booking.

Personal tip: Main branches on UN Avenue are usually faster. I sometimes pick them even if it’s a bit farther. Up to you!

Don’t panic if screens look different every year. NBI changes the design now and then, but the flow is always:

  • Register online.
  • Log in to your account.
  • Fill out your info.
  • Set an appointment.
  • Save your reference number.

That’s your golden ticket number!

Okay, here’s where most people stress: how do you pay? Will the payment go through? Trust me, you have options:

  • Online banking (BPI, Union Bank, etc.)
  • GCash, PayMaya, Bayad Center
  • Over-the-counter at 7-Eleven (bring your reference number)
  • Bank over the counter (BDO, Land Bank, China Bank)
  • MultiPay, ECPay
MethodHow to Do ItExtra Fees
GCash/PayMayaUse app, input reference number, payUsually ₱25–₱50 extra
Bank OTCFill slip, pay teller, keep receipt₱25
7-ElevenMachine: Bills Payment -> NBI -> Type ref numberUp to ₱50
Bayad CenterTell cashier it’s for NBI, show ref number₱25–₱50

Save your payment slip and/or screenshot. Seriously. Lost my first one and I had to repay. Painful.

  • If you applied after 2016, you can do the “Quick Renewal” online.
  • No need to appear if nothing’s changed. It’ll just ship the clearance to your home (choose “delivery” in options).
  • Cheaper if you do regular renewal though – but you gotta show up at NBI.
  • Go to the site.
  • Click the “Renew Clearance” button.
  • Fill in your old NBI number, name, birthday.
  • Confirm your address for delivery.
  • Pay online.
  • Wait for delivery at home (5–10 business days, some get it in 3!).
  • Log in like always.
  • Update details if you’ve changed address, job, etc.
  • Set an appointment as if you’re new.
  • Pay as before.
  • Appear at your chosen NBI office.
  • Bring two valid IDs, reference slip, and payment confirmation.

Almost there. Appointment day is always a bit nerve-wracking. Let me make it easier:

  • Your valid IDs (have two, just in case!)
  • Payment receipt or slip
  • Reference number
  • The appointment confirmation (digital or printed)
  • Security checks your name off a list and lets you inside.
  • Show them your IDs.
  • You’ll do biometrics (they scan your fingerprints, take your photo – smile!).
  • If your name matches someone with a criminal record, you’ll wait a bit longer. Otherwise, you get your NBI clearance same day.

  • Give him/her a notarized authorization letter and your filled-out forms.
  • Your rep must set the appointment and process everything at main NBI in UN Avenue.
  • Renewals since 2014? You can send scanned copies, process is way easier now.

Getting an NBI Clearance can be a nightmare – if you don’t know what you’re doing. But now, you do. With these steps, tips, and real-life stories (well, minus the coffee breaks), you’ll get your NBI fast, cheap, and headache-free.

There you have it! Now, go claim your future with that shiny new NBI Clearance. Good luck – and don’t forget your password!

What’s the quickest way to get an NBI clearance in 2025?

Try the Quick Renewal if you had one before and your info hasn’t changed. Payment, delivery, done. If you’re new, follow the steps above – online registration is key.

What if I can’t find my reference number?

Check your account’s history after logging in. Also, confirmation emails from NBI carry it. No luck? Customer service can help, but it’s slow.

Can I pick up NBI clearance without valid ID?

Nope. They’ll send you home. Bring two valid IDs to be safe. Sometimes one is fine, but you’d hate to waste a trip.

How long until I receive my clearance?

Usually, same-day if no hit. If staff need to check your name against criminal records, it might take a week. Delivery requests (quick renewal) can take 3–10 working days.

Is there a way to change my appointment date?

Yup! Log in, cancel your old appointment, then book a new one. Don’t forget to update payment if you already paid for the old slot.

Do I need to print my application and appointment form?

Not strictly, but it helps. Screenshots on your phone are usually accepted. Save trees, but don’t risk being unprepared.

What’s the deal with “hits” on my NBI clearance?

If your name matches a person with a criminal case, there’ll be a delay as investigators check your details. You’ll just have to wait for clearance or further instructions. Nothing to panic over if you’re clean.
